Jointly planned and published by Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Social Sciences Academic Press, the first yellow book on Portuguese-speaking countries, the Annual Report on the Development of Cooperation between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries (2019), was officially released in Guangzhou on May 16.

The report indicates that against the backdrop of profound adjustments in the global economy, China and Portuguese-speaking countries have accelerated cooperation, becoming emerging powers reshaping the international trade pattern. Commercial trade between the two sides boomed from 2017 to 2018, with growth of 29.4 percent and 25.3 percent respectively. Cooperation in service trade between them has deepened through the promotion of direct investment and increased project contracts.

The report points out that China and Portuguese-speaking countries have enhanced their political mutual trust through multilateral platforms such as the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and bilateral high-level visits. Cultural exchanges and cooperation at official and non-government levels have been facilitated. Giving full play to its role as a platform, Macao has established multilevel systems for spreading Chinese culture to Portuguese-speaking countries while carrying out various activities to deepen China’s understanding of their culture.
