On Aug. 20, the launch ceremony of the  Think Tank for Innovation in Contemporary Chinese Marxist Political Economics under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) was held in Beijing.

Wang Weiguang, CASS president and honorary chairman of the think tank, delivered the keynote speech of the event. Wang presided over the think tank’s launch along with Gu Hailiang, former president of Wuhan university and a member of the Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee under the National People's Congress (NPC).

Co-established by the eight institutes of the Academic Division of Economics at CASS as well as the Institute of Philosophy and the Institute of History, the think tank aims to popularize Chinese political economics while contributing to Chinese economic development. It is a professional think tank of socialist political economics studies with Chinese characteristics and also the first high-end think tank of socialist political economics with Chinese characteristics in the country.

The think tank will build political economics into an open four-in-one research system of economics, philosophy, economic history and history of economic thought. It will also integrate resources inside and outside CASS, bringing together professionals from multiple disciplines.

Nearly 100 scholars participated in the event, including representatives from CASS and some universities, such as the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese Academy of Governance, Nanjing University, Beijing Normal University and Renmin University of China.
