Zhang Yunling, male and from the Han ethnic group, born in May 1945, is a native of Wenshang, Shandong Province, and a member of the Communist Party of China. He is a member of the Presidium of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Academic Divisions, and a director of the Academic Division of International Studies. He graduated from the department of economics and politics of the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences as a master. He serves as Director, researcher and PhD student advisor of the Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and he is also the president of the China Society of Asia-Pacific, director of APEC and of the East Asia cooperation centre of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and director of the Regional Security Research Centre of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. His academic specialties are world economy and international relations. In 1992, he won the “Young and Mid-aged Expert with Outstanding Contribution” Award. Since 1993, he has enjoyed a special allowance awarded by the State Council.
