Jia Zhi, male, Han nationality, born in December, 1913, is a native of Xiangfen, Shanxi Province and a member of the Communist Party of China. In 1938, he graduated from the Chinese-French University (now the Beijing Institute of Technology). He is a researcher with the Institute of Ethnic Literature at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He is the honorary president of the China Society for the Study of Folk Literature and Art, Honorary member of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and International Society for Folk Narrative Research. In 1943, he set up Yanan Middle School and worked as political commissar and instructor. In 1948, he set up the department of literature and art at Yanan University and worked as secretary of the party committee and vice-director. In 1950, he created Minjian Wenyi Jikan. In 1951, he helped established the People’s Literature Publishing House and worked as secretary of the party committee and editorial director. In 1953, he was transferred to the Institute of Literature at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1980, he worked as the director and researcher at the Institute of Ethnic Literature at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. His academic expertise is national literature and folk literature.
