Yang Tianshi, male, Han nationality, born in February, is a native of Xinghua, Jiangsu Province and a nonparty member. In 1960, he graduated from the department of Chinese at Peking University as a graduate student. He is a researcher and PhD student advisor to the Institute of Modern History at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Vice-president of the standing committee of the society of Modern Chinese Culture, Director of the Association of Chinese Historians, Society of Chinese Modem History and Chinese Society of the History of the Communist Party of China. His academic expertise is Chinese modern history and the history of the Republic of China. Since 1992 he has enjoyed a special allowance awarded by the State Council.
