Wu Zongji, male, Han nationality, born in April, 1909, is a native of Wuxing, Zhejiang Province and a member of the Chinese Peasants' and Workers' Democratic Party. In 1934, he graduated from Tsinghua University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He is a researcher at the Institute of Linguistics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Postgraduate student advisor, Honorary director on the standing committee of the International Phonetic Association. He is also a part-time professor at Peking University. His academic expertise is linguistics and phonetics. Since 1991, he has enjoyed a special allowance awarded by the State Council.
