Gao Xiang, president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), met with Argentina’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation Daniel Filmus in Beijing on September 8.

Gao Xiang warmly welcomed the delegation led by Filmus, and affirmed Argentina’s cultural eminence in Latin America, with world-class influence extending to literature, film, music, dance, and football, among many other fields. He said that President Xi Jinping's state visits to Argentina in 2014 and 2018, as well as his meetings with President Fernández during the Beijing Winter Olympics and G20 Leaders' Summit in 2022, have led to the continuous deepening of the China-Argentina comprehensive strategic partnership.

For many years, CASS has conducted extensive exchanges with well-known Argentine universities, think tanks, and research institutions, facilitating friendly cooperation between China and Argentina. We are willing to actively implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Argentina’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation. To this end, it is necessary to constantly carry out exchanges featuring diverse forms, wide-ranging content, and new channels, elevating bilateral cooperation to new heights, Gao said.

“Argentina is deeply grateful that China has provided great support to Argentina’s formal admission to the BRICS cooperation mechanism,” Filmus said. China has become an important force in the global political and economic landscape, and its development achievements in the realm of digitalization, urbanization, and poverty reduction are worth learning from for Argentina. The Argentine Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation is willing to continue friendly cooperation with CASS and enhance bilateral cooperation in humanities and social sciences.

The two sides exchanged views on the successful operation of the China-Argentina virtual center for social sciences, jointly establishing a Chinese research center, increasing bilateral academic visits and exchanges, and jointly translating and publishing high-quality research results.
