More than 80 foreign Communist Party leaders, Marxist scholars, left-wing social activists, and diplomatic envoys from 37 countries attended the 13th World Socialism Forum, which was held under the theme of “Building a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity and the Development of World Socialism,” on Nov. 28–29 in Beijing.

In his keynote speech at the opening ceremony, Gao Xiang, president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), noted that building a community with a shared future for humanity is a Chinese plan for promoting human progress and world peace and development. Grounded in national rejuvenation amid global changes of a magnitude not seen in a century, it demonstrates China’s dedicated commitment to the common interests and wellbeing of all humankind.

Gao further emphasized the far-sighted and profound nature of the initiative, along with its rich connotations. It seamlessly integrates the fundamental principles of Marxism with the essence of traditional Chinese culture, crystallizes the valuable experience of the Communist Party of China (CPC) over the past century, and reflects the common value pursuits of humanity.

Since it was proposed 10 years ago, the concept of building a community with a shared future for humanity has been written into the reports to the 19th and 20th CPC National Congress, and included in the CPC Charter and the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China. Moreover, it has successively been incorporated into a series of material United Nations resolutions, receiving wide acclaim in the international community.

Gao said that the concept and practice of building a community with a shared future for humanity has contributed to a broad consensus on solidarity and cooperation globally, built capacity for coping with common challenges, and provided new impetus for the development of world socialism.

The notion of building a community with a shard future for humanity has been constantly broadened and deepened since it was put forward, and has been embedded into the theoretical research and realistic political background of major countries in the world, said Yury Tavrovsky, vice chairman of the Russia-China Friendship Association and chairman of the Experts Commission under the Russian-Chinese Committee for Friendship, Peace, and Development.

José Luis Centella, president of the Communist Party of Spain, spoke highly of China-proposed initiatives, including the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, saying they have presented important channels for constructing a new fair and equitable international order and advancing the building of a community with a shared future for humanity. He said that only socialist societies can better place humanity and the protection of nature at the center of all political, social, and economic activities to ensure a future with peace and progress.

Hosted by CASS, the forum was organized by the World Socialism Research Center, Academy of Marxism, Institute of Information Studies, Bureau of International Cooperation, and Research Center on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, all subordinate to CASS.
