On July 31st, Gao Xiang, President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), met with Australian Ambassador to China Scott Dewar and his delegation in Beijing.
Gao noted that this year marks the 10th anniversary of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Australia and the establishment of the China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership. In June of this year, Chinese Premier Li Qiang paid an official visit to Australia, during which both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the comprehensive strategic partnership and reached significant agreements aimed at strengthening and developing bilateral relations. Several cooperation agreements were signed, providing strong impetus for further improvement and growth in China-Australia relations.
As China’s premier academic organization and comprehensive research center in philosophy and social sciences, CASS is eager to enhance collaboration with the Australian academic community and think tanks to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries and to promote the deepening of the China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership.
Gao briefed Ambassador Dewar and his delegation on the remarkable achievements China has made since the reform and opening up policy, particularly since the 18th CPC National Congress. He also provided an overview of the key outcomes of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee. Gao emphasized that China, in the new era and under the leadership of General Secretary Xi Jinping, is in a golden age of growth and development. The Chinese people are steadfastly following the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
In the face of a complex and ever-changing global landscape, with unprecedented challenges confronting humanity, the Third Plenary Session will guide China in better addressing these international dynamics while advancing economic transformation and enhancing the people's sense of gain. Gao stressed the importance of adopting a long-term, holistic and developmental perspective to understand changes in the international environment. He further underscored the need to firmly abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, jointly uphold multilateralism, and create more opportunities for world peace and common development.
Ambassador Dewar highly praised China’s economic and social development achievements. He stated that the Australian Embassy in China looks forward to continuing its friendly cooperation with CASS, facilitating dialogues between academic communities and think tanks on both sides, strengthening cultural exchanges and policy communication, and helping to achieve new outcomes within the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
