On June 18, Gao Xiang, president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), met in Beijing with Phan Chi Thanh, president of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS), and his delegation.
Gao noted that the two Parties, countries, and peoples of China and Vietnam have long supported and assisted one another, upholding Party leadership and the socialist path, and sharing a traditional friendship rooted in the bond of “comrades plus brothers.” He expressed CASS’s readiness to work closely with VASS to further deepen friendly cooperation and jointly contribute to world peace and the advancement of human society. In light of today’s turbulent global environment and the momentous changes unseen in a century, Gao called on social science researchers in both countries to approach China-Vietnam relations from a historical, holistic, and developmental perspective, to shoulder the historic mission of defending the socialist system, and to continuously enrich the substance of the traditional friendship between the two nations.
Gao emphasized that CASS and VASS have long maintained cordial relations and close collaboration. Looking ahead, he expressed hope that the two institutions would seize the occasion of the 75th anniversary of China-Vietnam diplomatic ties to renew their agreement on academic exchange and cooperation. He encouraged both sides to pursue joint research on themes such as revolutionary traditions, the historical legacy of the two Parties and countries, and reform and governance in the economic and social spheres, thereby contributing wisdom and strength to each country’s modernization paths.
Phan expressed appreciation for the longstanding support CASS has extended to VASS. He highlighted the shared responsibility of both academies to cultivate mutual understanding and friendship among younger generations in China and Vietnam, and affirmed his commitment to working together to ensure the continuation of the socialist cause and the enduring transmission of its ideals.
The two sides also exchanged views on the international landscape, China-Vietnam cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and specific areas of bilateral cooperation.
